What is a Titanium Grade 2 Plate?
Grade 2 is the most widely used commercially pure (CP) titanium. Its protective oxide film gives excellent resistance to seawater, wet chlorine, hypochlorites, nitric acid and many oxidising media, and it is light, with about 60% of the density of steel. Grade 2 balances moderate strength with good formability and weldability. It is used for heat exchanger tube sheets and shells, plate heat exchangers, desalination, chlor-alkali plant, and pulp and paper bleach equipment. Welding requires inert-gas shielding to avoid contamination.

Titanium Grade 2 Plate: common questions
What is Grade 2 titanium?
Commercially pure titanium with controlled oxygen, iron, nitrogen, carbon and hydrogen. It is the most common CP grade, with 345 MPa minimum tensile strength and good formability.
Why use titanium instead of stainless steel?
Titanium resists pitting and crevice corrosion in seawater and chloride media far better than standard stainless steels, and is lighter. It is often chosen for seawater-cooled heat exchangers.
Does titanium need special welding?
Yes. Weld zones must be shielded with argon on both sides until cool, since titanium picks up oxygen and nitrogen at high temperature and becomes brittle.
Does Teshi manufacture titanium plate?
