A blind flange is a solid flange with no bore, used to close the end of a pipe, valve or vessel nozzle. Teshi Group manufactures blind flanges to ASME B16.5, ASME B16.47 Series A/B and EN 1092-1 Type 05 in carbon, stainless, alloy and duplex steels.

What is a Blind Flange?
A blind (BL) flange is a solid disc drilled with the standard bolt pattern of its class, bolted against a mating flange to seal a line end. It carries the full pressure load as a plate in bending, together with bolt loads, so it is generally the most highly stressed flange type in larger sizes. Blind flanges close pipe ends and nozzles, isolate sections for pressure testing, and provide access points that can be opened for inspection or cleaning. They can be supplied drilled and tapped for a vent, drain or instrument connection when specified.

Blind Flange: common questions
Is a blind flange the same as a spectacle blind?
No. A blind flange bolts onto the end of a flanged pipe. A spectacle blind, spade or spacer to ASME B16.48 is a line blank inserted between two flanges to isolate a line in service.
Can a blind flange be tapped?
Yes. A centre or offset tapping can be machined for a vent, drain, pressure gauge or instrument. State the thread (for example ½″ NPT per ASME B1.20.1) or socket size on the order.
Do B16.47 Series A and Series B blind flanges interchange?
No. Series A and Series B have different outside diameters, bolt circles and bolt counts in the same NPS and class. Confirm the series with the mating flange or the piping class.
What thickness is a blind flange?
The thickness is fixed by the class and NPS in ASME B16.5 or B16.47. See the dimension tables linked on this page; they give flange thickness and weight for each size.
