Socket Weld Cap — OEM manufacturer, Teshi Group

OEM manufacturer ASME B16.11

Socket Weld Caps — ASME B16.11

A socket weld cap closes the end of a small-bore pipe with a single fillet weld. Teshi Group manufactures socket weld caps to ASME B16.11 in Class 3000 and 6000, in carbon, low-temperature, alloy and stainless steels.

Also called: SW cap, forged socket weld cap, socket welding end cap, pipe cap socket weld

What is a Socket Weld Cap?

A socket weld cap is a forged fitting with one socket and a solid end. The pipe is inserted into the socket and fillet welded, sealing the line permanently. Caps are used to close drains, vents, dead legs and future connections on small-bore lines. Where the end must be opened later, a threaded cap or plug is used instead. Caps are ordered by size, class and material to match the pipe.

FAQ

Socket Weld Cap: common questions

When do I use a socket weld cap instead of a threaded cap?

Use a socket weld cap where the end will stay closed and a seal-welded or leak-tight joint is required. Use a threaded cap or plug where the end must be opened.

Which class should I choose?

Choose Class 3000 socket weld caps for Sch 80 pipe and Class 6000 caps for Sch 160 pipe, in a material equivalent to the pipe, as per your piping specification.

Are caps hydrotested?

ASME B16.11 does not require a hydrostatic test of individual fittings. Caps are normally tested with the piping system, or individually when the order specifies it.

What certificates are provided?

An EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate is provided as standard. EN 10204 3.2 or third-party inspection and IBR certification are provided when the order specifies them.
