What is an LSAW Pipe?
Longitudinal submerged arc welded (LSAW) pipe is formed from a single steel plate, bent into a cylinder (for example by the JCOE or UOE process) and welded along its length by submerged arc welding, normally from inside and outside. Because it is made from plate, LSAW pipe can be produced in heavy walls and large diameters with good dimensional control. It is chosen for high-pressure oil and gas trunk lines, offshore and onshore pipelines, large process headers and structural piling where ERW sizes run out.

LSAW Pipe: common questions
What is the difference between LSAW and HSAW pipe?
LSAW has a straight longitudinal seam made from one plate; HSAW (spiral) has a helical seam made from coil. LSAW is generally preferred for high-pressure and heavy-wall service, while HSAW is economical for large-diameter water and low-pressure lines.
What is the difference between LSAW and ERW pipe?
ERW uses electric-resistance welding without filler metal and is made from coil in smaller sizes. LSAW uses submerged arc welding with filler wire, is made from plate, and covers larger diameters and heavier walls.
Do you supply ASTM A672 pipe?
Yes, against order. ASTM A672 covers electric-fusion-welded pipe made from pressure-vessel plate, often A516 Gr 60 or 70, for high-pressure service at moderate temperatures. State the class (heat treatment and testing) in your enquiry.
