Threaded Tees — ASME B16.11
A threaded tee is a forged fitting with three female threaded ends used to branch a small-bore threaded line at 90°. Teshi Group manufactures threaded tees to ASME B16.11 in Class 2000, 3000 and 6000, with NPT threads to ASME B1.20.1.
Also called: screwed tee, NPT tee, forged threaded tee, female threaded tee
What is a Threaded Tee?
A threaded tee is machined from a solid forging with taper pipe threads on the run and branch. Threaded pipe or nipples screw into each end, making a branch without welding. Equal tees have the same thread size on all ends; reducing tees have a smaller branch. They are used for instrument connections, gauge tappings and utility branches where screwed joints are permitted.
Key features
- Equal and reducing tees per ASME B16.11
- Class 2000, 3000 and 6000
- NPT threads per ASME B1.20.1, gauged
- Assembly without hot work

FAQ
Threaded Tee: common questions
What does Class 3000 mean for a threaded tee?
It is the ASME B16.11 class designation. A Class 3000 threaded tee is rated for use with Sch 160 pipe of equivalent material; Class 2000 matches Sch 80 and Class 6000 matches XXS.
Are reducing threaded tees available?
Yes. Reducing threaded tees with a smaller branch thread can be machined to order. Please give the run and branch thread sizes, class and material in the enquiry.
Do threaded fittings need a hydrotest?
ASME B16.11 does not require hydrostatic testing of individual fittings. They are tested as part of the piping system, or individually when the order specifies it.
How should threaded joints be sealed?
Use a thread sealant or PTFE tape suited to the service on NPT threads and tighten to normal make-up. For hazardous, cyclic or high-temperature service, many piping specifications require threaded joints to be seal welded.
