Frequently Asked Questions

Most frequent questions and answers

How to know or determine the class of a flange?

When trying to determine the flange rating or class of a flange, the best method is to look for a stamp printed onto the flange. If one is not visible, or it is worn, then start by counting the number of bolt holes. To know which flange to use in a pipeline first match the pressure of a pipeline with the flange.

What is a flange adapter?

The flange adaptor is the most basic type of dismantling joint. On one side, it has a flange connection in accordance with the required flange standard, on the other an insertion socket for the pipe. A variety of standard pipe types can be connected. We at Teshi can manufacture various types of adaptors to suit your requirements.

How do you measure a flange or check the dimensions of a flange?

Use a calibrated ruler, tape or Vernier to check the dimensions of a flange. Check the Inside diameter (ID) by finding the maximum width of the center hole in the flange. The best way is to do it with a Vernier. To measure the outside diameter do it the same way and measure the outside dia of the flange. Measure the thickness of the flange by checking the height from the id of the flange with a Vernier. Check the PCD of the flange by measuring the distance between two opposite holes and adding one hole diameter to it. To know the no. of holes, count them and confirm the hole dia with a Vernier/tape.

What is raised face in a flange?

The raised face is the surface area that hosts the gasket. Flanges with different faces require different gaskets and shall never be mated to prevent leakage of the joint. RF and FF flanges may have different types of “finish” (i.e. roughness on top the surface): smooth, stock and serrated.

How many types of flanges are there?

The general types of flanges are the welding neck or weld neck, long welding neck, slip-on, socket weld, lap joint, threaded, plate and blind flanges. Other speciality types of flanges are Weldo flange / Nipo flange, Elbo flange, swivel flange, expander/reducer flange, and orifice flanges.

What is the purpose of a Flanges?

Flanges are used to connect pipes with each other and other piping items such as valves, pipe fittings, strainers, pressure vessels, etc. A cover plate can be connected to create a “blind flange” which is used to close a pipeline. Flanges are joined by bolting, and the sealing is often done with the use of gaskets or other methods. Flanges make it easier to replace pipes or fittings from a pipeline.
